Like most fall seasons, there’s quite a bit that have the potential to be watchable, but not much that really grabs me. I found quite a bit to preview, but I’m not all that excited. I could say that it’s a side effect of growing up, but screw that. I almost always love the Spring season. Ah…spring…
Well I suppose it’s good for school and all to not have that many series. But I really wish I only had 4 series to preview that I was really excited about/guaranteed to watch than 8 that I’m only mildly interested in. Except Iron Man.
-
The always evolving preview continues. This time I did four new things.
- Alternate titles since series are arbitrarily better known by the English translation over the Japanese (or vice-versa)
- Official studio websites in addition to ANN
- Demographic/genre for manga in the adaptation category (shoujo, shounen, jousei, seinen)
- Continuing OVA & Movie DVD Releases
I think as of now it’s looking like it’s got a semi-permanent format.

-
Sequels
Remakes, spin-offs, or continuations of a previously animated series.

lol Ichigo grows up.
I’m not totally sure what to say. I mean this can potentially branch off in two directions, being horribly awkward or a really interesting experience. However, “new characters” is always worrisome. I’d be surprised if I ended up hating it. No matter how often I note something awkward with something in this anime, I still love it. The only thing that could drive me away is CG.
Note that I just took information from the current series. I don’t know if it really applies to the new season (especially in regards to seiyuu since we don’t know if the all the main characters are sticking around), but whatever.

He instead creates a powered suit of armor to save his life and escape captivity and later uses the suit to protect the world as Iron Man. Or at least so goes the comics…
Every time I try to write thoughts for this I end up rambling or thinking of the start to a certain song. So…song instead.

However, one day, Tsukimi invites a stylishly fashionable woman to stay in her room, only to discover that the guest is not who “she” seems to be.
I am intrigued. Not much to say except I’m gonna start a tally of this being called shoujo. Though maybe I’ll give people more slack for this one since it won the Kodansha award in the shoujo category. Even if that’s only because having another category would water down the significance though (‘sup 10 Best Picture nominees).

‘Sup Mecha genre. It’s been a while. So let’s do it up good. All I really have to add is, “OH MY GOD YES! Maaya-san in a voice acting role!”

It’s the Meiji Era in a slightly alternate Japan, and the Gregorian calendar has just come into effect. The fox-eared girls living in the youkai part of town are about to be put to work together with a delegation of young human soldiers, to promote interracial understanding. So what will happen when Zakuro’s strong personality collides with human sensibilities?
Twin-tails and fox ears. Moe~ I actually see this often enough, but I always write it off when its an eroge or ecchi manga. However, this is a seinen manga. And it looks like it could be pretty cool. And I love the Meiji Era (along with its Western Equivalent actually…). It also has Mai Nakahara and Aki Toyosaki and Yui Horie playing twins. Couldn’t make that up if I tried. Plus…despite the fact that I saw it listed as “seinen” it totally feels like shoujo in some respects. So yeah…

“Oh hey, there’s Yuichi Nakamura in the cast list.” -watchlist’d-
That’s really all there was to it. It’s been too long so I was determined to watch it no matter what. Plus it’s been a while since I’ve seen a tsundere imoutou. I didn’t see ecchi listed as a genre anywhere, so we should be good. I’m definitely checking it out, but whether I stick with it depends on if it actually manages to be funny I think. Also long title, so OreImo from this point on.
Chances of Watching: Decent.

Psychic Detective Yakumo

The story follow Yakumo, a young man who can see the spirits of dead people with his red eyes. He uses this ability as a gift to solve murder cases.
Bee Train, we meet again. Still not sure how I feel about you, your animation improved the last time we met, but you still pissed me off. However, this series interested me enough to check out one of its (shoujo) manga adaptations. That was decent so I’m checking out its adaptation. Though I’m a little weary of this only being 13 episodes, I totally expected a 24-26 count. I guess it depends on how the pacing is handled. Though 13 episodes series are always making me a little weary lately. :/

Moritaka Mashiro, an average 9th grade student but talented artist. Akito Takagi is an advanced 9th grader and aspiring writer. After much persuading, Takagi convinces Mashiro to join him in becoming the greatest manga-ka Japan has ever seen. Takagi, with his gift of writing, hopes to become a successful mangaka, and Mashiro, with his gift of art, hopes to marry the girl of his dreams, Azuki Miho. (Wait what?)
I think there’s some rule written somewhere that most anime fans will check out any anime with anime-related things included in the subject matter. Obviously, I’m included in that rule. Up there is OreImo with eroge and down here we have a couple of manga-ka. Plus I’ve heard some good things about the manga, so we’ll see if that carries over to the anime. Unlike many anime fans I wasn’t totally wrapped in Death Note, so it’s not like that association alone will make it “must watch.”

Yozakura Quartet: Hoshi no Umi

Reboot OAD packaged with volume 9 of the manga.
The anime for Yozakura Quartet was in the Fall 2008 season. It apparently drifted from the manga story (though I stopped watching at episode five). So now there’s an OAD, that’s more faithful. In fact see quite a few scenes I can easily recognize from around volume five, which is the last volume released officially in America (and therefore the last I’ve read). So, I’m assuming it’s adapting the arc started there? Excellent, I won’t be lost so this is a must-watch for me. Everybody sing the Tsundere Song Sakurashin Anthem.
Though I have to say the character designs are throwing me. I’ve seen two adaptations of Suzuhito Yasuda’s art which were pretty much on the mark. It’s an easy to animate style, so I am puzzled. And conflicted. The animation also seems to have a thin line between awesome and wonky…
Chances of Watching: Guaranteed. I’m actually planning on blogging it.

For her first year of school, Fu Sawatari moves to Takehara, a scenic old town near Hiroshima where her late father grew up. She loves taking photographs with his old film camera, a Rollei 35S.
I’m always up for giving a Junichi Sato anime a chance, even if I’m not always in the mood for the current offering. Not much to say here except that there are two apparent dates for this anime to be released. 9/25 is a preview airing and I guess and 11/25 is the release date for the (first) OVA. I just went with the latter since it fit my format.

Leftovers
The TV series I’m not interested in.
Agriculture Girl! – Wut.
Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge – I didn’t watch the first season so it’s kind of out of my hands. Maybe someday.
Battle Spirits: Brave – Nothing to say, moving on.
Fortune Arterial Akai Yakusouko – I go to school. I have no room for an eroge adaptation that may or may not be shit. Especially when the former seems to be true in most cases.
Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai – It feels like this one is trying too hard. It’s got a set-up which is basically just shouting, “Look! Irony! Right? Right!? Hilarious shenanigans will obviously ensue!” In which case the opposite usually happens. So yeah… The animation looks nice though. Pity.
Karl to Fushigi na Tou – It’s a bunny! And a kitty! And I obviously don’t need to watch this!
Hakuouki: Shinsengumi Kitan Second Season – “Second Season” -> Moving On.
Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls – I looked up how many series had the phrase “Samurai Girl” in the title on MAL. It was less than I expected.
Motto To Love-Ru – I read this entire manga. I feel such a mix of shame and accomplishment.
MM! – This looks like the most generic cliche-ridden piece of crap ever. Just by the promo picture, you can totally just tell.
Panty & Stocking with Garderbelt – What…the…? Is it just me or are those supposed to be their names? Also obligatory, lol Powerpuff Girl style. It looks weird if they’re not supposed to be five.
Pocket Monsters: Best Wishes! - I don’t know what I’m supposed to say here…I can’t make fun of it because it kind of makes me happy that something that helped shape my childhood is still airing. (I’m also totally going to buy the next game…)
Rita et Machin – Heh. The website’s kinda fun.
Shinryaku! Ika Musume – I make it a point to stay away from anime with lol-hair unless I am otherwise persuaded.
Sora no Otoshimono: Forte – When I see sequels to stuff like this I just have to believe we’re getting a second season of Durarara!! someday.
Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru – I pride myself on not judging series solely by their art. But in this case, I really looked into this series, and it interested me. But not enough to make up for simplistic fugliness.
Super Robot Taisen OG: The Inspector – Did nothing to interest me.
Tantei Opera Milky Holmes – Wut.
Tegami Bachi Reverse – Second season lockout. And I had no interest in watching it back then either so…yeah.
To Aru Majutusu no Index II – Maybe when I finish the first season.
Togainu no Chi – The trailer for this thing was halfway between weird and kinda cool. But it really didn’t make me want to watch it. :/
Yosuga no Sora – Oh hai. Another eroge adaptation. See Fortune Arterial.
You Are Umasou – Wut.

All information was gathered in other places and all I did was simply collect them into one post. Resources include The Fansub Wiki, Wikipedia, Anime News Network, My Anime List, and the anime sites themselves. Some additional info from MangaUpdates.
As a warning, if my resource was wrong, then I’m wrong. But I try my best to collect information I believe is correct. Though I’m always wary of series getting dropped off the list, so unless they have an actual date, caution is somewhat advised.

Thoughts
Like I said there’s a lot in this season that has the potential to not outright suck. It depends on execution. But not much really stands out. Luckily I’ve been excited about Iron Man for a while, but even that has me feeling subdued because I’d really rather check out the dub. I’m probably most excited that I’ll be able to keep watching YumePati every Saturday, but with Ichigo grown up it’s guaranteed not to be as cute. And I think I’ll have nightmares about Mary Sues until it airs.
I guess it’s a good thing that I’m not that into the season. I may not be taking many classes, but I’ll have my hands full trying to keep up my health. I was finally getting to 100% at the beginning this summer, but…well I’m sure everyone’s noticed I haven’t been posting much. And I’ll leave it at that lest I go into pissy rant mode about stuff no one cares about.
That said, I’m missing blogging since I…can’t blog. So I’ll do my very best to fit it in. I’m thinking about working just two days instead of the three I have planned right now, but we’ll see. Or if I just always do my homework the day I get it, I’ll have three free days anyway!

I’m planning on watching a lot this fall. I’m mostly looking forward to Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge though. I loved the first season.
I’ll also be watching Bakuman, Ore no Imōto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai, Shinryaku! Ika Musume, Yosuga no Sora, Kuragehime, Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru (SHAFT <333), and Tamayura.
Adult YumePati?
This does sound like an odd direction especially since in the manga they’re still in the grand prix in Japan, but I can’t help being happy about it simply because I’m a mega shipper.
Yeah, they’d never defile the pure little 14 year old Ichigo-chan but now she’s an adult! and adults get into romantic relationships with Kashinos!
I’ve only skimmed over this years fall anime list so I still don’t know what I’ll be watching. Though I have to admit, I will watch the first episode of Pokemon:Best Wishes in hopes that it will be better than the last few seasons. I’m considering watching Iron Man but other than that nothing’s really caught my eye yet. Though I’ll probably find something once the shows are a few episodes in like I usually do
lol Ichigo grows up. I think that’s all I can say. :’D
Am I the only one sorta looking forward to Fortune Arterial animu?
Yumi Pat~
Yeah, It’s the only show I’m guardndeed to watch, since I watch it with my mom and all. Hope they don’t pull a Rikka.
Aww, no love for Yosuga no Sora? :< Well, if you saw the full PV, I can’t say I’d blame you. There’s a reason it’s airing on AT-X >_> But Sora is just awesome :3
I’m surprised you’re not giving KamiNomi a shot just cuz Itou Kanae is in it. I know I sure am :D Although, the last time I gave something a chance cuz of Itou Kanae… well, it was Mayoi Neko.
XD Well I guess if you are posting this the list is actually official. Been putting off doing my own list since people thought it was fake. But I hope everything we watch ends up being fun and worth while.
Well that is a lie. I know Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan is going to be fail. But I love the hot boys.
Amutofan123: Sometimes I feel so left out in the anime fandom because I don’t go “SHAFT <333″ I feel left out. T_T Why don’t I have favorite studios anymore?
bleeh: I have to admit…shipping was probably the first place my mind went. XD But when I think about it now, I can’t help but sigh over the fact that we’ll be missing out on adorable puppy love.
Sakura Ocean: Yes! Finally a comment on Iron Man! The lack of interest I’ve been finding in it makes me so lonely.
Kiseki: I was actually, before I put my brand new “No Eroges in the preview ever” rule into effect. Though that was because I thought it started as a PS2 game…it didn’t.
warriorhope: “since I watch it with my mom and all.” I still find that to be the most awesome and heartwarming thing, like, ever. XD
Nazarielle: My new No Eroge Rule makes no exceptions! Though I have to admit I didn’t really take the time to learn anything about it.
Yeah…I did the same for Mayoi Neko. This was a factor in me excluding “Oooo! Seiyuu I like!” as a good reason to watch an anime. With Yuuichi Nakamura and Yui Makino exceptions, of course.
Christina: I always go by Fansub Wiki first and charts and stuff second. An odd case for a Wiki being more reliable, but there you go. It’s easier to troll people with one photoshopped image after all.
That one mention of hot boys almost made me want to add it into the watchlist (I barely even checked out the website before) so I can’t really say I blame you.
I’m an observing fan of August. Always excited for the new eroge they develop (Bekkankou’s art is awesome), but never playing. >u>; And then I played the Fortune Arterial trial…bored the crap out of me. This guy, however, says the game is very good. But Yoake Mae yori rurisomethingsomething got adapted into QUALITY Cabbage Love. And while the promotional anime art are gorgeous…gdi animation looks similar to Cabbage Love.
Btw this should be the link for the PM: BW anime. c:
Forgot to mention (though you prolly know already lol) FUCKING EXCITED FOR TAMAYURA. *o*
Awww, don’t feel left out! I used to not have a favorite studio. I recently watched Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, the ef series, and Bakemonogatari though. I loved all of them, so I’ve had a love for Shaft recently.
Grr…..I really hope that we do get that (announcement for a) second season of Durarara!! before June 2011 because if we don’t then I am going to be one piss off anime fan.
Really you hit the nail on the head. If somebody out there is approving junk like this for a second season then we have to get a second season to stuff with actually plot.
Still I am looking forward to some things coming out this season. Panty and Stocking have interesting titles enough to draw me in. I guess it is morbid curiosity. Kuragehime and My Sister is…is up there but not sure if I actually will watch them. Depends if legal streams are available since I really don’t want to dig though jumble up fansubs sites.
I haven’t watched SoraOto myself…but I’m rather surprised all these bloggers are saying it’s crap. From what I’ve seen of the show it looks hilarious and I suppose charming too…
Flying pantsu is very creative and artistic yis.
Planning to watch Hakuouki since I’ve just finished the first season actually, and whatever else piques my interest~
Not sure if I’ll watch Oreimo since there’s a lot of hype for it. In Japan, anyway. Don’t want to be let down.
And yes! Avoid eroge adaptations like the plague. At best they’re done decently; at worst, they’re the shows you’ll regret wasting your life on.
I can’t really see myself watching anything other than Shinrei Tantei Yakumo and Tegami Bachi Reverse ;D although I’ll have to finish the last few episodes of season one now…
Pokemon BW I’ll just wait for the dub and then laugh probably ;D but the game on the other hand…
Might try tamayura, looks cute
Ash will be a ten-year-old model forever.
Pokemon’s back! I’m looking forward to the games. The anime looks worse and worse. Anyway, Bakuman’s gonna be great, I love the manga. That OAD for Yozakura Quartet interests me, I quite liked the anime.
I’ll be checking out Otome Youkai Zakuro, looks too cute to miss out ^^. Who doesn’t like a bit of moe now and then?
Seems like a good season for me, got quite a few on the interested list, whether I’ll watch or not is a different story though. Shame my time will be rather restricted…
Tony Stark is definitely the coolest character to ever exist. Iron Man better be awesome!
I kinda have to watch “Yosuga no Sora.” Don’t get me wrong, eroge and ecchi and all that crud just make me want to take a shower…but I saw the preview on YouTube…and there was Pocky…plus, I don’t know a lot about the other series here…and there was Pocky…’nuff said.
But I’m totally gonna watch OreImo (just wish the title weren’t so effin’ long puu). It just seems interesting to me…Kirino and I seem to be very similar (so similar, it’s actually kinda creepy); we’re both obsessive over our anime and kinda have to hide it from family members, we’re the same age, we need money to feed our obsessions and thus need jobs (which I don’t have…dude, I WISH I had her job. The best I can get right now is grunt work at the church rectory), and…I’M NOT A TSUNDERE, OKAY?! GET THAT RIGHT OR I SWEAR I’LL HACK YOU UP WITH MY hellokittyemblazoned CLAAAAAAYMOOOOOORE!!!
…Meh, I’ll look into some more. OH! I FORGOT! “Iron Man.” Totally. And “X-Men” when it comes out, ‘cuz my even-more-tsundere friend will tie me to a chair with duct tape and tar if I put up a fight, nya.
OHH SHOOT forget “Yosuga no Sora”…*foot halfway down throat* I hadn’t watched the FULL preview. When I did, I saw WAAAAY too many bouncy maids…
I’ll just have to pick some new ones, nya.
[...] you want a second opinion about the upcoming shows try out the previews by Ani no Miyako, Simplicity, The Deathseeker, That Anime Blog and Rabbit Poets and if you want the most complete coverage of [...]
‘Kay, most of them have aired now…sooo, how’s it goooin’? xD I’ve watched Bakuman, OreImo, and Otome Yokai Zakuro so far; my prediction from that is that OYZ is going to be made of constant win, Bakuman is gonna be hilarious (and great for amateur mangakas, hardy har), and OreImo is gonna be…interesting. And kawaii to the fullest. Noice season so far! xD Can’t wait to hear your reactions, FuyuMaiden~
