Winter Anime (2010)
My namesake season of anime is coming up! And what does it bring me…? Almost nothing of interest. Damn.
Summer and Winter are always about half the size of Spring and Fall so I guess it can’t be helped. Still, this is probably the most disappointing season of anime for me personally since I’ve been blogging. I only found one new series I have any real interest in picking up.
Though it’s all for the best. I’ll be busy in Winter. Plus less anime = easier preview = earlier post!
-
Last time I finally found a preview format that I liked, so I’m sticking with it. This time just making the images smaller to make things look neater and making the title more noticeable.
Same format though. Continuing Series, Sequels of Interest (none this time), New Series, OVA & Movies, and…the rest. There’s a lot of “the rest.” You won’t even get much enthusiasm from me on the new stuff I go in-depth for.
-
-
Continuing Series
Continuing from the last season.
- Shugo Chara! Party!
- Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
- Fairy Tail
- Yumeiro Patissiere
- InuYasha Kanketsu-hen
- Kobato.
They go in order of what I think will not end first. Shugo Chara! places first because it’s never going to end. Kobato. places last because…it has 24 episodes which is mathematically the least amount of episodes. Fairy Tail places above Yumeiro Patissiere which we now know will probably have at least 52 episodes just based on most shounen stats. YumePati is already confirmed for just 52. Fullmetal Alchemist? Well it has at least a half a year to go I think.
Of course things always change. To make it simple: Only InuYasha and Kobato. are ending in Winter.

A secret law in the old part of town brings together dread and mystery. It is the summer of 1983. 10 stories, intertwined by the idle thoughts of people caught in repeating nightmares. What could possibly be the truth therein!?
Always wanted to watch Higurashi, but I wanted to get it on DVD so it just hasn’t happened yet. Probably for Christmas (lol nice Christmas present). Didn’t watch Umineko because I just felt like I wanted to watch Higurashi first. But now we have a new anime based on a Ryukishi07 game and its character designs were done by Peach-Pit. So…Oh hell yes.
Watching? Yes.
Blogging? Doubt it.

Durarara!!

Series: Durarara!!

Ryuugamine Mikado is a normal high school boy who seeks peculiar beings. he moves to Tokyo’s rowdy Ikebukuro neighborhood, where teenage punks gang up and fight against each other. There is an urban legend “Dullahan” headless rider, who rides a black motorcycle without head lights nor sounds of engine. A mad scramble for Dullahan’s missing head breaks out.
It looks like it could be good. Legitimately good. It has all the signs of being good. There’s only one downside. I usually don’t like things that are considered good. Or rather, I like them, but I don’t get excited for them. Strange. But I’ll still be watching this, even if it isn’t really my sort of thing. But the cast…the cast, I’d watch this even if I thought it was going to be crap.
Watching? Maybe.
Blogging? No.

So•Ra•No•Wo•To

In the future there is a land that, after being marred by long-lasting wars, has settled into quiet decline. A 15-year-old girl named Kanata fulfills her dream of enlisting in the army and joins a unit of five girls who protect a fortress. The girls play music that reverberate across the skies over towns without people and seas without fish.
“K-On! Joins the Army” I guess (I was going to leave the character resemblance alone until I found out about the music). I’m willing to give it a chance if it’s just the art though and not the overall moemoemoe tone. Now I’m supposed to love shows with girls, but I’m worried about the moe-blobbery that’s been getting to me lately. So I’ll just keep a little tally going. It gets five “too stupid to live” moments in the first episode and then it gets dropped. Any yuri subtext that isn’t really subtext and is just there because it’s a series full of girls for the sake of fanservice gets it immediately dropped.
Watching? Maybe.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu

Adaptation: Light Novels by Kenji Inoue
Studio: SILVER LINK

Seiyuu: Hiro Shimono, Hitomi Harada, Emiri Katou, Kaori Mizuhashi, Kouki Miyata, Tatsuhisa Suzuki

There is an academy rigidly divides up the student body into classes based on the results of tests. Prodigies are in the heavenly A class, but our “baka” Akihisa is in F Class, the lowest rung of the school ladder which is as bad as A class is good. Mizuki Himeji is also in F class, but is actually one of the smartest girls in Akihisa’s sophomore year. Besides Mizuki (who Akihisa secretly adores), the F class also has class president, Yuji Sakamoto, who has been Akihisa’s friend and since freshman year. So they…start a revolution…with mascot characters… ![]()
My seasonal “pick up something that looks bad so I can watch it when I’m bored” pick. I have one every season. These picks I usually choose based on character designs and the potential for some romance in the plot, but lately I’ve been picking them out for ridiculousness that may make me laugh. Of course, it’s worth noting that excessive fanservice just gets kicked out and I pick up something else that’s idiotic instead.
Watching? Maybe. -_-

Nanoha Vs. Fate -> Nanoha & Fate Team-Up in all of its big screen GLORY!!! Plus their non-mahou shoujo clothes are cuter this time around I think.
Nanoha!!! Ass-kicking loli befriending magic on the BIG SCREEN! The original befriended story! Damn I wish I was in Japan.
At least I’ll enjoy the build-up and the merchandising like I’m in Japan.
(Got a pre-order in for my Nanoha nendoroid!)
Really though, this is one series that having a recap movie beats having a new storyline. The first season could use some tweaking to make the action and story work better. So I’m very excited.
Watching? YEAH!!!…on DVD. ![]()
Blogging? Maybe when I actually watch it.

Other Anime for the Season
TV series I probably won’t be watching.
Chu-Bra!!: If the title isn’t obvious why I won’t watch this than the website certainly is. I don’t seem to be the intended audience.
Dance in the Vampire Bund: I just don’t like vampires guys. I think they’re the most overrated…thing ever. The only vampire story I ever liked was Karin which put a unique spin on it and had the plus of being a comedy…and the manga being just plain good. But if the promo art for a vampire story looks vampire-y I generally stay away.
Hanamaru Kindergarten: When I saw this I originally thought it seemed cute. Then I realized that my tastes have changed and that stuff like this bores me nowadays and pisses me off if I don’t realize it bores me. Go figure.
Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 3: Owari Naki Unmei: Stupid long name, I’m glad I’m staying well away from you. Anyway, this reeks of fantasy otome game adaptation or something resembling that so I’m just staying away.
Hidamari Sketch×☆☆☆: Haven’t watched it yet. Don’t know why I’d start now.
Katanagatari: I may miss out on a lot of good stories this way, but I have the opposite reaction that most have to something that looks unique and possible interesting. At least for anime. If it looks weird at all I just want to stay away.
Ladies vs. Butlers: The title sounded interesting, but then any further research into it ruined it all with its horribly generic…everything.
Nodame Cantabile Finale: Even though I really do want to watch this I can’t catch up in time. I will take this opportunity to actually watch it though. The promo art did me in.
Omamori Himari: Those evil bastards try to lure me in with their cute big riboned-girls and their romantic comedy summaries. Luckily this time I was able to scroll down and I decided it wasn’t for me.
Seikon no Qwaser: You almost had me with your mildly pretty art. But I saw those unnatural looking boobs and I ran. Even so I don’t think it looks very interesting anyway.

All information was gathered in other places and all I did was simply collect them into one post. Resources include The Fansub Wiki, Wikipedia, Anime News Network, and the anime sites themselves.
As a warning, if my resource was wrong, then I’m wrong. But I try my best to collect information I believe is correct.
The adorable Rin image up top was brought to you here. (Image itself is also clickable)
As always, when information changes or becomes available, this post will change accordingly.

Thoughts
…I totally want to skip over this season, just grab Ookami Kakushi along for the ride and go to spring. There’s four anime that I was interested in enough to get the full information. Four. But on the other hand…there’s just 14 total in this post.
For once I can’t really see myself picking up anything this season that I didn’t preview and that’s just disappointing.
Of course I don’t have much to complain about when I have Spring resembling Fall in being perfect for my tastes. And they’re the big seasons that really matter.
Angel Beats! will be watched and almost guaranteed to be loved by this fangirl. Black Rock Shooter…which everyone is watching (and screw you if you’re not). Likely Kaichou wa Maid-sama! which…should need no explanation.
Plus Iron Man which actually gets a bigger FUCK YEAH than the rest from me. I secretly love comic book superheroes, but I just don’t read them because of their convoluted intertwined stories. Plus I don’t like different writers working on the same thing. It irks me because the trouble I know it can lead to. But movies and anime? That’s just fine with me.
And this is how boring I find Winter. All I can talk about is Spring. I’m not going to blog anything, am I? Only one “doubt it” and the rest are flat-out no. More time for Project R and school then.

i love the picture of rin!!

Meh~ Winter season usually doesn’t offer much, and the few redeeming qualities of this season already makes it far better than the norm. Nanoha movie goes a long way by itself… now comes in a filler-free package for an easy introduction to bring others into the nanoverse~!
Higurashi was amazing and top-of-the-line as far as plot-driven animes go. Then my thoughts about Seventh Expansion gets muddled by Umineko where the needless torture of characters and main heroine’s lack of sanity is beyond tolerance. As you’ve never watched either, I wonder where you confidence in OokamiKakushi comes from (o_O )
Nodame, on the other hand, is a top-tier character-driven anime. Funny, cute, and beautifully romantic in more ways than one. If you get sorely bored, I’d recommending catching up to these two instead of investing time in the other random shows.
Speaking of Rins, check out this plushie I found over the weekend~

Small list is small. But it’s WINTER so yea…anyways, HI! Long time no chat. How ya doin’? XD
HELL YES OOKAMI KAKUSHI!!! X3333333 Nuff ‘said.
DRRR! is also a guarantee.
And everything is pretty much very MEH. I have…eh, four others that I’m intent on at least checking out but it’s really a take-or-get-lost season. Nothing much else to say until Spring comes.
And screw the start of school. I’m hijacking a jet over there all for some serious moe befriending on the silver screen (and I want my nendo-Nanoha as soon as I finish watching <3).
…god, I miss posting long comments.
November 10th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
I can’t believe its the winter season already.
I’m probably not going to be a fan of it, but thats ok. I really can’t handle watching more than one anime per season. I always promise I’ll watch several, but then end up dropping all but one.
I can see myself watching Durarara!!, So•Ra•No•Wo•To, and maybe… MAYBE Seikon No Quasar. I like the art, and it actually sounded interesting until I saw the unnatural boobs and read that its full of fanservice.
The concept of So•Ra•No•Wo•To is enough to make me interested. “K-On! joins the army”.. I just cracked up when I read that. It sounds like I’ll get a good laugh at it. Haha.
November 10th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
Ryukishi07 + Peach-Pit = win!
OokamiKakushi is the only one that I know I’m definitely watching. I love Higurashi and Umineko so I’m sure that I won’t be dissapointed with this. I may also check out Durarara!! and possibly Dance in the Vampire Bund. There really isn’t much this season. Which is fine with me because I am already behind on a lot of series. But Spring! Oh mah gah! I can’t wait for Spring! Angel Beats and Kaichou wa Maid-sama and Black Rock Shooter and probably lot’s more that I am going to watch! I’m so uber excited for OokamiKakushi though! *dies*
November 11th, 2009 at 2:57 am
Gosh, winter season already? I can’t believe it. It won’t be any time before the spring season is out. God time is going by fast! I have my fingers crossed that the spring season will be epic.
Looking at the winter line up, I’m really glad I picked up on Kobato and Yumeiro Patissiere because there doesn’t seem to be much that will interest me this time around. I might go back and watch a few of the other fall shows that I haven’t been following instead.
November 11th, 2009 at 7:44 am
thx 4 posting the list, nice place you have here……
November 11th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
Emma: I know! Isn’t it so cute?
Aorii: Oh yes, the Nanoha movie. I could forgive the blandness of the entire season if I could just see it in theaters myself!
I wouldn’t say confidence so much, but excitement. I’m sure there’s something good to Higurashi and Umineko because people whose opinions I trust are always so excited for it. So I’m glad there’s a totally new series I can jump right in with…that has designs by Peach-Pit (awesome~).
I’ll do my best to catch up with Nodame during my periods of free time in Winter. I should start collecting it soon so I’ll be read ahead of time.
Xiao: Omgz! Where did you go? *glomp* I missed you! I started getting all lonely and stuff when you even disappeared on twitter.
Oh yay, I have someone else who is agreeing with me on the utter meh-ness. It feels like some people are getting excited and I feel left out. It’s all owed to the Shaft Vampire anime though, which I already explained I had zero interest in.
Take me with you!!!
And I miss seeing your long comments.

)
13Cici: I don’t usually drop quite so many, but I can relate. I end up dropping about half of them. Usually. This season’s been different.
Amutofan123: I know right? Spring is going to be awesome. So exciting~ But Ookami Kakushi is definitely worth a look. I feel like it would fit in so much better with the awesomeness of Spring.
Chibi: Haha. I know it feels like it’s coming up so fast, but still feels far away. Makes it worse since there’s not much to look forward to.
Having series that continue through the next season is helpful though. But I always love watching something new. So marathoning as well I suppose.
cross: Thank you. ^^

I’m so excited for Durara! Character designs by the mangaka of Yozakura Quartet, I knew the instant I saw the poster. The Nanoha movie looks awesome as well. 8D
November 11th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
I have to agree for the most with the season.
I’ll watch OK (even though I’m not good with horror) simply for the character designs (Peach Pit~). DRR! actually seems like it’s going to be good, even though I actually think good anime is better on dvd.
Sigh. when is A1 going to anime non moemoe shows. i like their animation so it would be nice to see them do something good/interesting (shojo anyone?).
Also yay for Iron Man. I always wanted to get into comic books too, but like you didn’t want to get involved with stories that had too many people writing them and decades long backstories. So I get if from movies and anime too.
And Linkera, but that may have more to due with the fact he’s a feminist megene.-= warriorhope´s last blog ..Yumerio Patissierre-Episode 6 =-.

A bit of a correction for Sora no Woto. Kanata won’t be voiced by Aikawa Juri, but Kanemoto Hisako. JP Wiki lists both seiyuu, but the HP says that she’ll be voiced by Kanemoto (with the press conference…thing and her trumpet lessons on the site, I’m sure of it). I think it was originally planned to have Aikawa, but they changed it to Kanemoto not long after.
Ookamikakushi is totally automatic win. 8D I’ve always wanted to get into Higurashi and Umineko too, but yeah, never got to that… xD Yay for watching HQ horror?
Do I fail for really really really looking forward to Sora no Woto? 8D;
Hanamaru Youchien is full of boob jokes due to Gainax. Change of opinion now? (The manga was cute but it kinda really bored me. Except for Hiiragi. Kappa swimsuit ftw! Crawling like a caterpillar ftw! Gravure magazines ftw! …The list goes on. orz)
Angel Beats!, Black Rock Shooter, and Kaichou wa Maid-sama! yeeeeessss.

I think there’s still shows that will be added – 14 new shows is a real small number even for an off season.
I plan on watching Ookami Kakushi because of the source material and I’m curious to see how someone other then Studio Deen handles it.
And Durarara!! because it’s being done by one of my favorite studios – Brain’s Base and it better be good since they could be doing the third season of Spice and Wolf or Natsume’s Book of Friends instead.
And Dance in the Vampire Bund because it’s a Shaft/Shinbou show. Though I am excited that it appears that Shaft got enough money to make the series look good. And the fact that the male main character is being voiced by Yuuichi Nakamura aka Clannad’s Tomoya is just icing on the cake.
And Hanamaru Kindergarten because I want to see what Gainax does with an apparently straight up cute show.

[...] First on site stuff…yeah I haven’t had much inspiration to post lately. I blame any aforementioned Holiday Mood. The Holidays just totally take me over. Of course, by Holidays I mostly mean “Christmas” but…you know whatever. The whole Winter-y Holidays season just makes me smile. Until New Years ends and then I curl up in depression. So hey! No posts then either! (Not like there’s anything to post about coming up then anyway…) [...]

Nice preview. Hope you enjoy Higurashi when you get a chance to check it out, definitely one of my favourite series.
Some interesting series out there. Will check out OokamiKakushi, I mean loved Higurashi and enjoyed, Umineko so no reason not to give this one a look since the synopsis sounds interesting enough.
Not sure what to think of Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu. But I figure if Minatsu from Seitokai no Ichizon is recommending it, has to be worth a shot. Might be so bad you can just watch and enjoy.
